Wayne Newton

Performer, Actor, a.k.a. Mr. Las Vegas
Wayne Newton

Born Carson Wayne Newton on April 3rd, 1942, Wayne Newton is one of America's most notable entertainers.  He earned his nickname "Mr. Las Vegas" by helping to put the sin city on the map entertaining tirelessly for over 3 decades.

Guiness Book of World Records once listed Wayne Newton as the world's highest paid entertainer.  Although he filed for bankruptcy in 1992.

Wayne Newton was discovered originally by Jackie Gleason.  His first hit song soon followed called "Danke Schoen".  Many ridiculed Wayne Newton for his high pitched voice, and when his song was on the radio most people thought that it was indeed a female singing the song.  Wayne tired of this ridicule and even threatened Johnny Carson about making jokes at his expense.  Johnny stopped joking about Wayne.

Wayne resides on the southeast side of Las Vegas in a mansion called "Casa de Shenandoah".  Wayne held a nightly show at The Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas before the hotel was destroyed on November 1st, 2006.

Wayne was awarded the1992 Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Dark Backward (1991).  Wayne also received a "Razzie Award" in 1991 for Worst Supporting Actor in The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (1990) with Actor / Comedian Andrew "Dice" Clay.

Wayne Newton received a TV Land Award in 2003 for Favorite Guest Performance by a Musician on a TV Show on "The Lucy Show" (1962).
